ABSTRACT: This paper describes the changing patterns of syphilis in Canada from 1980 to 1995. The rate of early symptomatic syphilis declined from 5.6 per 100,000 in 1984 to 0.4 per 100,000 in 1995. The discrepancy between the proportion of male and female cases has declined from 87% male, 13% female in 1983 to 62% male, 34% female in 1995.
