About 154 years ago, a branch of the Haviland family in the United States was in the business of importing china through New York City. When supplies of suitable china became unsure, David Haviland went to Limoges in France to make and ensure a reliable supply of fine china for the family business in America.
In Limoges, David Haviland and his sons were innovative in designing and making translucent china from the white kaolin clay to be found nearby. Their factory thrived.
