Sloan has become the quintessential Canadian band. The hottest American artists -- Limb Bizkit, Korn, Nine Inch Nails, Kid Rock -- are arrogant, juvenile and brash; cocky makers of big noise. But Sloan's new album Between The Bridges is a more subtle piece of work, with all four band members contributing an equal number of songs. Democracy without heavy-handedness -- like Canada.
Make no mistake though. Like Canada, despite being a kinder, gentler, equal-opportunity conglomeration, Sloan is no wishy-washy band. And the new record is their best and most passionate creation.
But four creative guys without a boss means it ain't always easy.
