Shifting sands, forest islands, and foamy ocean breakers are all within easy view from the new Oregon Dunes Overlook. Just 10 miles north of Reedsport and a little west of U.S. Highway 101, the overlook--in Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area--provides the first access to the dunes not requiring a detour from the coast highway.
Separate viewing decks on three levels (the highest is 140 feet above the ocean) are designed for visitors who want to see the dunes without walking down to them. Interpretive signs explain dunes geology, and you'll find parking, rest rooms, and five picnic tables.
