A spectacular view was being wasted. The backyard stretched all the way to the Delaware Water Gap, but from the existing window it was all but invisible. And the double-hung window itself was old (photo at left) and leaked heat badly.
The owner of the house in rural New Jersey remedied both drawbacks in one move--he installed a double wood-frame insulated-glass window that was equipped with efficient, tight-fitting jam liners. The result? Both his room and his energy outlook brightened.
