A seesaw battle over fuel-grade methanol is heating up, as marketers of the Petrocoal blend bitterly challenge the Environmental Protection Agency's proposed ban on the blend.
Proponents of Petrocoal--which spawned a host of look-alike blends and contained the highest percentage (up to 12.5%) of methanol ever approved by EPA--are drumming up other evidence which refutes the grounds for EPA's reversal. One example: a recent Tennessee Valley Authority study which concludes the properties of methanol blends aren't much different from gasoline.
Marketers also describe the major study which EPA relied upon in seeking the ban as "garbage," and claim the study ...
