NEW YORK, May 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Father knows best? Not if he tells you that breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

A review of current medical literature and nutrition research at major medical centers dispels long held assumptions about the nutritional importance of breakfast. "There is virtually no credible, scientific evidence to prove that most people need to start the day with breakfast," says health writer Daniel Zwerdling.

Former director of the U.S. Agriculture Department's Human Nutrition Center, Mark Hegsted agrees. "For most adults," he says, "I'm not convinced it makes a lot of difference whether you eat breakfast or not."
