MIAMI, May 29 /PRNewswire/ -- BellSouth Mobility Inc. (BMI) today announced it has begun operating the Southeast's first commercial cellular mobile telephone service here.
The Federal Communications Commission granted the company an operating license for its revolutionary system as Memorial Day weekend began. Customers were provided telephone numbers throughout the weekend.
"Miami becomes one of the first cities in the nation to receive this service," said BMI President Robert L. Tonsfeldt.
BMI is a subsidiary of the BellSouth Corporation.
