American Tanners Bullish On Hong Kong Converting
American tanners and leather suppliers are bullish about Hong Kong's development into a major converting area for hides into finished consumer goods.
Skin traders said as manufacturing skills improve and more factories turn to hotter priced products, the value and volume of leather imports should grow substantially over the next few years.
Signs of such growth are already visible. Total imports of leather were valued at about $20.5 million last year, up 35 per cent over 1982. Exports of leather products also increased by nearly 30 per cent to $13 million.
