PARIS (FNS)--The Reagan Administration's tightening of import controls on textiles and apparel has led to a large increase in fraudulent shipments into the U.S., but steps are being taken to stem the flow, according to a senior U.S. Government trade official.
Speaking to government officials and industry executives assembled at the International Apparel Federation (IAF) convention here, the deputy assistant secretary for textiles and apparel, Walter C. Lenahan, stressed that "there has been a substantial disruption in our apparel industry in the past two years" from rising imports.
