LOS ANGELES, July 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Many records are expected to fall when sprinters, long-distance runners and jumpers from around the world take their marks on the track at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum for the 1984 Olympic Games.
That's because the 400-meter oval track, surfaced with a combination of polyurethane and rubber, is considered among the fastest in the world.
"There is simply no better surface to compete on," said precompetition director Jim Terrill of the U.S. Olympic Organizing Committee. "It helps the athletes perform better and it's safer."
