Only a few years after gasoline marketers learned to be grocers, they are starting to sink their teeth into a new trade--fast food service. At projected gross margins of 50% and up, marketers feel they can make a faster buck frying chicken than they can pumping gasoline.

But what has been called one of the most popular tie-ins is getting mixed reviews from marketers. The same jobbers who enter the business licking their chops at potential profits can leave it licking their wounds from food service regulations, labor expenses, utility costs and inventory control problems. Even successful fast food/gasoline marketers say this business is not for everybody.
