HONG KONG -- Taiwan appears to be the best location for knitwear exporters looking for quick production that can be shipped to the United States under the Reagan administration's new country-of-origin regulations.
But, like everywhere else in Asia today where there is some open US quota and production, a businessman has to have good contacts to get his knits made.
Unless the U.S. Government delays initiation of the new rules, after Sept. 7 hundreds of millions of dollars worht of knitwear production that is usually shipped to the U.S. each year won't get past Customs. A large percentage of these knits are partially processed in China and then shipped ...
