Under the tentative agreement, which must still be approved by the directors of both railroads (in the case of the LIRR, the Board of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority), several major changes to current operations will take place:
-- Amtrak and the LIRR will jointly fund the development of a modern centralized train control facility for the Penn Station complex, converting older train control facilities to a state-of- the-art remote control operation.
