WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., Sept. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- New York Power Authority trustees today approved a request by the Steuben Rural Electric Cooperative for an increase in the cooperative's retail rates. The action was taken at a meeting here.

Residential customers will pay $30.85 a month for 500 kilowatt hours (kwh) of electricity under the new base rates, compared to the current $25.10; $42.88 compared to $34.40 for 750 kwh; and $54.90 compared to $43.70 for 1,000 kwh. Current energy adjustment charges add about six-tenths of a cent per kwh to the retail price.
