Professor Kozlov argues that the interactions between transitional societies such as the USSR and their international trading partners "cannot be adequately conceptualized in terms of a homogeneous law of motion--the capitalist and the socialist systems each have their own particular dynamic." In particular, "the Soviet economy lacks the expansionary logic of capitalism." Were these truths recognized by more Sovietologists, particularly those of a left-wing presuasion, our task of studying Soviet-type economies would certainly be greatly facilitated.
