ANN ARBOR, Mich., Nov. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Irwin Magnetics, which earlier this year introduced the industry's first compact, high-capacity tape drives for Winchester disk backup, has awarded a $20-million-plus second source production contract to SCI Systems, Inc., Huntsville, Ala.
Starting in the first quarter of 1985, SCI Systems will assemble Model 110 5-1/4-inch half-high tape drives, and later will produce Model 210 3-1/2-inch drives, plus selected future systems. During the first three years of the contract, Irwin Magnetics will purchase in excess of 100,000 units. The contract calls for SCI Systems to supply Irwin Magnetics with "a substantially higher ...
