WASHINGTON, Nov. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. Labor Department's Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) today released preliminary data on mining fatalities and injuries for the first nine months of 1984.
The rate of fatal injuries in coal mining in the first three quarters of this year was .05 per 200,000 employee-hours, compared with .04 for the same period last year and .04 during all of 1983. Seventy-five coal miners died in work-related accidents from January through September 1984. Coal mining fatalities numbered 55 in the same period last year and 70 in all of 1983.
