POINT PLEASANT, N.J., Dec. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- New is still a magic word, and new products are the key to growth in 37 percent of U.S. businesses, says a Department of Commerce study. But what's new in new products is that -- in 1984 -- there were only 9,895 of them, down two percent from record-setting 1983. However, they tended to be more sophisticated and durable and do more for the user. They also cost more. The average new product in 1984 cost four percent more than it did in 1983.
