LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y., Dec. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- The Medical Society of the State of New York has called for a ban on over-the-counter diet pills "until such time as there is sufficient proof of their safety and effectiveness."
The action, taken at the monthly meeting of the Society's Council last Thursday (Dec. 13), was directed at a problem with which the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has been concerned.
The Society noted that the FDA last year "prohibited the sale of over-the-counter diet pills which contained combinations of phenylpropanolamine hydrochloride (PPA) and caffeine. However, these pills are available containing PPA alone and caffeine ...
