In the fiercely competitive retail world, where many station operators say it's a struggle just to stay alive, a dual-branded independent on Long Island, N.Y., is zipping along merrily with a mix of products that includes 110-octane gasoline and a respectable composite margin of 20^ gal.
The outlet, Pase Fuels, of Huntington Station, on Long Island's affluent North Shore, is pumping 300,000 gal. monthly. It used to do 500,000 gal. and could easily return to that level with a downward adjustment of its retail prices.
