The age that gave birth to homeopathy--the period roughly from 1780 to 1860--has been called the "Age of Heroic Medicine." For most ailments, physicians prescribed extensive blood letting. Some doctors had so much faith in bleeding that they were willing to remove up to four-fifths of the patient's blood.
