PARIS -- What some people toss into the dustbin, designer Tom Binns turns into jewelry for stores like Saks, Maxfield Blue and Charivari.
At the top of a rickety wooden staircase is Binns' London studio--the kind of place that would have given Dickens a rush. Here, the designer sits amidts the collected debris of modern civilization in a warm amber light created by blazing gas stoves. His current collection for men and women consists of pieces he has made from such found objects as rusty keys, locks and bottle caps, zippers, stamps, silverware, fuses, computer components, bullets, bulbs and watch bands. They are like sculptural collages.
