Attacks Resume on 55 Mph Speed Limit

The 55 mph speed limit, an energy-saving measure that turned out to save lives, is under attack again from members of Congress who say it wastes motorists' time.

The momentum is coming from members from rural areas and the West, where the national speed limit has been criticized since shortly after it was adopted at the height of the energy crisis in 1973.
