NEW YORK -- With complaints aplenty about the demands of department stores, some sweater resources happily report they have been deepening their penetration into specialty stores with their current fall lines. They hope this will contribute to projected fall sales gains of 15 to 20 percent.
Citing department stores' reluctance to cut back on their own private label programs, late commitments, cautious attitudes and continual requests for mark-down money and deals, sweater executives said they are having better luck with specialty stores and are selling at more of the regional shows.
