DESPITE the war raging in and over its waters, and with the exception of certain Iranian wells in the war zone which were capped following Iraqi air strikes early in the conflict, it's "business as usual" for Persian Gulf offshore exploration and production.
In fact, a late December-early January estimate of rig activity in the area found 148 rigs working. Some 28 of those were in Abu Dhabi alone, meaning mostly offshore. (In comparison, a similar level of drilling is going on in the western half of the Arab world, led by Egypt and Algeria with Libya not far behind).
