Gerald Kanter leaving Ames Stores
Gerald L. Kanter is leaving as president and chief operating officer of Ames Department Stores, Inc., and it is expected that Herbert Gilman, chairman and chief executive officer, will assume Kanter's positions.
Kanter has not announced any plans, according to Ralph Shulansky, senior vice president and chief financial officer of Ames.
Ames would nto comment on Kanter's departure. The company's proxy, mailed out last week, indicates Ames is negotiating with Kanter to settle also says that Gilman is expected to take over for Kanter, and that Kanter will no longer continue as a company director.
