Europe: The Dollar's Future Fuels Anxiety
Western Europe's man-made fiber producers are benefiting from an overvalued dollar and previous capacity cutbacks, but they would rather deal with more stable currency rates in plotting their future course.
"The dollar situation is hampering investment decisions,' said Jean Louis Juvet, executive director of the Paris-based International Rayon and Synthetic Fibers Committee (CIRFS).
"The longer we wait for the dollar's unavoidable decline, the tougher will be its impact on the whole industry,' warned Juvet, an economist who even urges the U.S. government to issue treasury bonds denominated in European or ...
