Q Dr. Levy, roughly how many Americans suffer from digestive diseases?

A Approximately 50 percent of all Americans have recurrent digestive-tract problems. About 23 million Americans have some sort of chronic digestive disorder, and another 14 million suffer acute episodes. We're talking about a range of problems from ulcers and heartburn to cancer and gallstones--any disease that affects the digestive tract, including the stomach and colon, and the gallbladder and liver.
