AGGRESSIVE heating oil industry suppliers, marketers and equipment-makers are beginning to nibble away at former converts to natural gas in isolated areas and are going after the new housing market.
The biggest target for fuel-switching, however, appears to be from electricity to either oil or gas. Electric rates have been rising steadily, souring some customers on advanced heat pump equipment bought years ago, says one oil heat equipment manufacturer.
"Electric rates are going out of sight," John Marran, president of Energy Kinetics in Bernardsville, N.J., told The Oil Daily.
