NEW YORK -- Sunglass sales will reach $1,030,000,000 at retail in 1985, according to the sunglass Association of America, which reported about 160 million pairs of sunglasses will be sold in the United States this year.
The SAA's report, based on findings through October and projections through December 1985, is culled from sales figures of its member firms. The group says the 42 American companies and 28 foreign firms in the SAA represent 90 percent of the sunglasses retailed in the U.S.
Retail sales in 1984 topped $1 billion for the first time, reaching $1,020,000,000, a sharp rise from the 1983 level of $885 million.
