Since the first Hudson's Bay blanket was cut into a lumberjack's coat, woolen fleeces have been around in men's wear. These warm woolens with a brushed-up face are currently hot in women's wear, so men's wear can't be far behind.
Many of the fleecier brushed fleeces contain mohair for a long-haired look, and some are loosely woven in lighter fabric weights useful for tops or seater fronts. In Europe, some of the coating weights are being cut into bulky sport coats.
It's all part of the trend to interesting surfaces and natural fibers in soft, warm, friendly fabrics.
