NICOSIA, Jan. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- The Turkish Cypriot side has asked for a further postponement of talks on Cyprus between the United Nations and the Greek and Turkish Cypriot sides which had been scheduled to take place in the middle of this month.

The announcement came today from the acting representative of the U.N. Secretary-General in Cyprus, James Holger, after a one-hour meeting with Cyprus's Foreign Minister George Iacovou at the Foreign Ministry.

The "low-level technical" talks are part of new efforts made by the U.N. Secretary-General Javier Perez de Cuellar to break the existing deadlock in the Cyprus problem.
