Unidentified flying objects are thriving in Italy, whatever their fortunes elsewhere. Since the phenomenon was first observed, in the form of a flying saucer, in 1947, there have been 450 recorded instances of UFOs in the peninsula. A congress of "ufologists' here recently took stock of current circumstances and reviewed a voluminous chronology of UFO sightings, as yet unpublished, by prominent ufologist Maurizio Verga.
