One of the biggest oil exporters in the Gulf with the longest history in downstream operations, Iran has five new refining projects in addition to expanding the Abadan and Tehran refineries. They will expand current capacity from almost 900,000 b/d to 1.965 million b/d in the next five years, and the total investment required is estimated at about $3.4 bn.
- Arak, a strategic area on the main railway and pipeline system between the oilfields of Khuzistan and Tehran, will have two refining units with a total capacity of 270,000 b/d.
