Q Representative Williams, why are you sponsoring legislation barring use of polygraphs by private employers?
Because lie detectors don't work. They may detect increased blood pressure, increased perspiration, increased heart rate, but they don't detect lies. Even so, lie-detector use has tripled in the past 10 years--a growth rate that simply has to be stopped.
Q If polygraphs don't work, why are they so popular with employers?
They're convenient. They save employers money that otherwise would have to be spent creating good personnel practices and ...
