Development and re-exploration projects listed now include oil and gas/condensate discoveries made by Sonatrach since the early 1980s and finds made by its foreign E&P partners in the past five years. The most important among these are the following:
- The Hamra gas/condensate field, south of Rhourde Nouss, discovered by Total Algerie (CFP/Total). Total is one of the few firms to have maintained an active interest in Algeria in recent years. In 1987, it renegotiated its 49 percent participation in the Mereksen permit, now operated by Sonatrach, which is producing 10,000-12,000 b/d with reserves estimated to last another 12 years.
