GREENPORT, N.Y., Feb. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Ice water is nice water, particularly when it conserves energy as it is doing in this North Shore Long Island community in a New York Power Authority-sponsored demonstration project.
The project is a man-made ice-spray pond, a cooling system that produces ice for commercial use. The project captures the cold of winter for use when the weather turns warm and winter's bitter chill is just a memory.
The pond uses Power Authority electricity supplied through the village of Greenport's municipal electric system, but it requires only one-tenth the amount of energy normally required to produce commercially-usable ...
