Buying Firms Close As Tensions Mount TOKYO (FNS) -- Apparel buying offices in Manila closed down Monday as contending political and military factions took up positions and sporadic fighting was reported in some parts of the city.
Buying offices are also urging retailers to stay out of the Philippines for the present time.
"Our office (in Manila) is closed down for three or four days," said Nick Connor of W.E. Connor, the Tokyo buying syndicate with about a score of employes in its Manila operation. "They say there is fighting in the streets," said a Hong Kong-based buying manager who also reported his firm's offices in Manila were closed. "I don't think ...
