An imide decomposition method produces silicon nitride powder which has high purity and readily controlled grain boundary composition, the Japanese developer claims. Ube Industries Ltd of Tokyo reports that the grain size is 0.2- 1.0 Um giving the powder a high level of activity. The high proportion of alpha phase makes the material easy to sinter to high density.
