Milan's HOT Romeo
MILAN -- The buyers and members of the press who found themselves climbing the stairs over an auto body shop on Corso Como at 9:30 one recent morning were in for a surprise. Romeo Gigli's show of fall ready-to-wear, held in his somewhat obscurely situated showroom, swiftly became the dark horse winner of a mostly uneventful week of collections.
Gigli's show was, in itself, a refreshing change from the Hollywood-style productions staged at the Milan Fiera. In his stark white studio crowded with folding chairs, Gigli kept the lights high and the music low. A slow parade of mannequins sauntered almost shyly through the aisles, hands ...
