They hide in low places. They make sneak attacks at night. They send battalions of raiders. And they never give up.
Who are they? The wily slug and the willful snail--Public Enemies Number One in most Western gardens. They've inspired ballads, poetry, and books of lore, but most of all they've inspired pure, no-holds-barred hatred.
When we asked readers last spring to tell us how their battles were going, more than 400 responded. Passions ran high:
