Meat packers test expanded Code 128

WASHINGTON - A new shipping-container coding system developed for meats could revolutionize communications between trading partners in dozens of industries.
The new code is a modification of the Uniform Code Council - International Article Number Assn. (UCC-EAN) Code 128. One of several bar-coding systems used by shippers today, it was developed jointly by UCC and EAN technical organizations along with an Inter-industry Distribution Efficiency Task Force representing the American Meat Institute, the National American Wholesale Grocers Assn. (NAWGA) and the National Grocers Assn.
