BOSTON, April 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Citing "a premium growth rate unparalleled in (the companies') history," Liberty Mutual Insurance Cos. today reported a net gain from operations of $101,089,000 for 1985, compared with a net gain of $92,548,000 in 1984.

Net premiums written by the Boston-based companies totaled $4,161,247,000 in 1985, representing a 37.5 percent increase over 1984. The companies recorded a net underwriting loss of $446,386,000, exceeding the 1984 loss by $83 million, while investment income increased to $720,723,000. Dividends declared to policyholders were $173,462,000 in 1985, compared with $144,601,000 in the previous year.
