The Sagars (or Sagrs) are one of the old and most important merchant clans of the Bani Utub. Their views are taken seriously by the ruling family. They have long exercised their right to a share of the rule, first through the "Consultative Council" in the 1930s, and later through the National Assembly, of which Abdel Aziz Al Sagar was the President (Speaker) for many years until the mid-1960s.
