US healthcare professionals have been alerted to an increase in the number of reports of allergic reactions to devices containing latex by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The FDA has told US healthcare professionals that the allergic reactions appear to result from proteins that occur in natural rubber components, according to a recent issue of Inside Health-Care, the technical newsletter of the Association of British Health-Care Industries (ABHI).
The FDA is currently working with the manufacturers of these devices to minimize the levels of these proteins. The amount of the proteins that is likely to cause severe reactions is unknown, the ABHI ...
