The biggest consumer of electricity produced by PLN is the manufacturing sector. For example, of PLN's total sales of 24,725.8 GWH in 1989/90, 11,418 GWH or 46.2% was consumed by the manufacturing sector. The second biggest consumer in the same period was the household sector, consuming 7,947 GWH or 32.1%. For details, see the table:
Comparison of electricity production costs
Several types of fuel and lubricating oil are used to produce electricity. For instance, diesel power plants (PLTD) use fuel oil; steam power plants (PLTU) use either fuel oil, coal or gas; geothermal and hydro power plants (PLTP and PLTA) respectively use geothermal energy and steam.
