Halbouty Likes Antarctica Oil Potential
HOUSTON -- When oil prices start edging upward, the most successful folks in the oil patch will be those ready to mount exploration projects. And, says Michel T. Halbouty, Antarctica is a great place to start.
"Antarctica is the last truly 'frontier' reserve area on the earth," the independent oilman told the 1986 Offshore Technology Conference Tuesday. "Geologic studies indicate sizeable potential in the immediate offshore area."
Halbouty said parts of Antarctica surely have structures similar to those of the Bass Strait, Australia's major offshore producing area.
