Article: INTEREST IN INVESTING IN THE CULTIVATION OF BEEF CATTLE STILL LOW

The consumption of meat in Indonesia has been showing a tendency to increase. This is closely association with the growth of the Indonesian population and of the people's buying power. During the past four years, Indonesia's meat consumption increased at an average annual rate of 5%, i.e. from 928,500 tons in 1987 to 1,083,222 tons in 1990. The growing meat consumption has encouraged efforts to procure more cattle, especially beef cattle. However, these efforts are still faced with an obstacle, i.e. the short supply of prospective superior beef cattle. This can be seen from the low interest among investors in developing the cultivation of beef cattle.
