WASHINGTON, May 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Witnesses for the American Academy of Dermatology told Congress today that although an Academy-sponsored survey showed Americans are more aware of the dangers of skin cancer, the disease is an increasing cause of death among the aged.

Testifying at a hearing of the House Select Committee on Aging chaired by Rep. Edward R. Roybal (D-Calif.), the witnesses said National Cancer Institute figures show that between 450,000 and 500,000 new cases of skin cancer are reported each year, representing 30 to 40 percent of all cancers diagnosed in the United States.
